Namibia, a developing country in Africa, is home to the worlds oldest desert “Namib”, which is close to 80 million years old. With breathtaking crimson sunsets and beautiful stargazing skies, Namibia is also known for producing the best diamonds in the world.
Namibia gained its independence from South Africa in the 1990s, making it one of the youngest countries in the world. The economy is based mainly on fishing, agriculture, tourism, and mining. Diamond mining, being one of the largest economic contributors, has subsidized to almost 40% of the Namibian economy. About a decade ago, many diamond factories were operating in Namibia, however, due to the recession and the business of other competitors, most of the diamond mining factories were forced to shut down. Out of all the remaining factories, Almod Diamonds Ltd. was able to continue operating the business smoothly. With hard work and dedication, Almod Diamonds Ltd. managed to expand from one factory of 30 employees, to three factories with over 200 employees, as well as over 100 stores operating in the Caribbean, Florida, Mexico, Pacific, and Alaska.
Almod Diamonds Ltd. has offered employment opportunities to hundreds of Namibian locals. These opportunities became the support system for the Namibian community and has protected them in their time of need. Over the years, the employees have been thoroughly trained leading to a mastery of not only the technicalities of cutting and polishing diamonds, but finance, engineering and inventory control as well. This advanced education has not only brought the community together, but has also provided the opportunity for the Namibian economy to flourish even more! With the advent of technological advances in Namibia, it has made the country more competent against other developing countries.
About 70 to 80 cents of each dollar that is earned through the diamond business is reinvested into Namibia allowing for more growth over time. The taxes taken have helped the government build more infrastructures including hospitals and schools in the rural areas of Namibia. Almod Diamonds Ltd. has also been a part of supporting an orphanage known as “Baby Haven”, offering children in need a chance to live a better life. (I think we need more info on this)
Almod Diamonds Ltd. began to open local stores in Namibia to allow tourists and locals to enjoy the one-of-a kind pieces produced locally!
The incredible Almod Diamonds Ltd. family represents a shining hope for a promising future, not only for the company, but for all of Africa.
